The Botany strand at Pine Lake Elementary serves as an excellent introduction to the study of living organisms and their functions. The living classroom at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden offers students an opportunity for full immersion in learning about the plant kingdom and how it affects and complements the animal kingdom. Students will gain an understanding of and respect for nature and the environment as they cultivate a passion for science, and develop into environmental stewards.
Educational Partnerships
As part of the STEM: Botany & Zoology Magnet Program, and in-line with the established path of study, Pine Lake Elementary has attained partnerships with Zoo Miami, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Discovery Education, and the Everglades National Park. Designated classrooms have been set-up at partner sites to facilitate immersive learning. These partnerships offer resources beyond the textbook or internet images, and allow students to conduct unique, high-level, research-based inquiry, resulting in engaging, real-world learning opportunities.
